The chat yesterday was spent with second level support doing an in-place reinstall of Windows, retaining my apps, files, and most of my settings. Sunday morning's chat confirmed the results that I had obtained during my debug attempts. After two three hour chats with first and second level MS support this week, I got a call back from a third level support engineer this morning, andĪfter forty-five minutes, the problem was resolved.

I wanted to provide an update following my call with third level support from Microsoft this morning. I noticed that there is a similar problem identified for Epson dot matrix printers in the community discussion for which there is still no solution, as well as other printer related problem in this Technet forum How can I regain access to my printer?Ĭan I map it by IP address, or is there another workaround that will enable me to print? This is becoming urgent. I've also tried reinstalling the printer through the HP Smart utility with my firewall enabledĪnd disabled, both with the same results.

And Windows 10 can see the printer in File Explorer when I select the Network. Pro, smartphones and tablets can all see the printer and execute print jobs.

If I run the HP Smart printer app on the same PC that can't find the printer, it immediately displays the full printer status and shows it as Ready, and identifies the IP address which I can use to access the printer engine in my browser. The print spooling service not running, but it was, and even restarting the service and/or rebooting the system didn't resolve it. I had previously gotten errors concerning If I click on "The printer I want isn't listed," I get "Windows can't open Add Printer - the remote procedure call failed". When I attempt to add the printer it can't beįound on the Add Printers & Scanners screen in settings.

If you mean that you do not have room to connect yet another USB cable to your computer, then getting a minihub might solve your problem (also from Amazon, Best Buy, etc.)Ī minihub is a small device with a number of ports for USB of various kinds, as well as Ethernet, HDMI, etc. If you mean that all your printer ports are in use (odd, but I am not there to see that, so I assume that this guess is probably wrong), I would not know what anyone could do about it, other than to unplug something.
